Optus “Future Makers” Program for Social Change

Optus, the second largest telecommunications company in Australia, recently launched their Future Makers program. Through the program, social enterprises and not for profits can now apply for $50,000 grants to help them kickstart their innovative ideas.

Optus Future Makers

Future Makers was developed with the goal of fostering new digital ideas that will address challenges that many at-risk young Australians face in society today. According to Helen Maisano, Associate Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Optus, this program's focus on digital innovation will help to make a difference throughout Australia. The company is looking for unique ideas and systems that aim to make a social impact through technology. Additionally, the ideas will have to address one of these areas in which young Australians often need the most support: education, employment, cyber safety and well-being.

After the initial application process, 12 individuals or organisations will be chosen to participate in the Future Makers program. Future Makers will give them access to both industry mentors and networking opportunities to work on their ideas. Then, the ideas will be pitched to a panel of experts, and six will be chosen to receive the $50,000 grant for their winning ideas.

Optus' new Future Makers program displays the company's commitment to corporate social responsibility and giving back to Australia.
